A few kilometers from the city center on a rocky outcrop are the ruins of the Corradino Castle. In fact, the building has a square plan preceded by a pronaos, which looks more like a tower. The name of the Castle is a misnomer because it is actually a mausoleum dating back to the imperial age that, together with the so-called Customs, is one of the most important funerary monuments from the Middle empire known in Sicily. In the 13th century the castle was used by Corrado Capece as a fortress in defense from the Swabians in Sicily.
The site is particularly impressive not only for the uniqueness of the monument that attests to the Centuripe’s importance during the Roman Imperial era, but also for the beautiful view it offers of the Catania Plain and Mount Etna.
